Long Island Comic Fest © was a long time coming. Something show owner Jay wanted to do for some time, to simply bring back the Old School Comic Book Show like it was when he was a kid in the 1980's collecting Comic Books and Toys. Jay is a lifelong fan, collector, a seller a times, has worked in the Comic Book industry with Harris Comics, Chaos! Comics, Billy Tucci... even with Stan Lee, DC, & Marvel Comics at NYCC. Comic Books are in his blood and were the influence and reason Jay has the career he has. He'll tell you if you ask him, he owes everything to the hobby. Now is his chance to give a little something back.
There was a time before Pop Culture accepted the Comic Book world into it's embrace. A time when it was NOT cool to read comic books. A time where a Comic Book Show was all about the Comic Books, Publishers, Creators, Artists, etc. A Comic Book Show back then was our escape, our "safe place" and truly a haven for the Comic Book Community. It was a place where the FANS could get together and talk comics, buy, sell, and trade and feel totally normal. A place where they could meet their comic book idols who created the characters and speak to them. It was a simpler time before the internet, online sales, movies, and Hollywood driving the market trends. Saturday Morning Cartoons ruled the day. It was a time when Spidey, Batman, and all the rest of the Heroes and Villains were the true stars of the hobby. One of the best Comic Book Shows around in the 80's into the 90's was in the basement of a little church in NYC. The St.Paul Church, and the promoter was Mike Carbonaro. Today that little show has grown into The Big Apple Comic Con. THAT was a killer Comic Book Show, and something Jay never forgot. It was his favorite show, even more so than the king... San Diego Comic Con.
Over the years Jay listened to the complaints of the Comic Book Community concerning the "CONS". They were the same as his own frustrations. He saw for himself, being a fan, how Comic Books slowly took up less and less real estate at the Cons to make room for Advertisers like Ebay, HP, and Geico, Funko POPS, and Cosplay; and to be honest with you guys, even Jay felt "lost" again in the sea of Pop Culture, and his beloved hobby was being overshadowed again to the trends of the moment. Comic Books started ALL of the present day pop culture cons, and they aren't getting the love or attention they rightfully deserve again.
Something needed to be done about it.
And so in 2019 the very first show..... The Mid-Island Comic Show © was created and took place in Jan 2020. IT SNOWED! Jay thought the show was sunk.... dead before it even got off the ground. Low and behold, to everyone's amazement just under 400 people showed up for the show and it ROCKED! Talk about a HOLY COW moment! Everyone loved the show.
Then covid hit, everything shut down, and we went back to the drawing board while planning intently for the next show.
Over the next 2 years Jay restructured the back end of the show. He changed the name to Long Island Comic Fest ©. Planning, patience, a great partner, your demand for it, and the desire to bring the show back prevailed and here we are!
THE SHOW LIVES! THE SHOW WILL GO ON AS IT WAS DESIGNED TO BE...... A REAL COMIC BOOK SHOW CREATED BY FANS, FOR THE FANS!
